JAKARTA - Smoke rose in the Nusantara III DPR Building, along with the sound of sirens. Several people ran out of the building. There are also those who shout, "fire" while blowing through the smoke.

Edison Manurung from the Lake Toba Community Committee was one of those who panicked. He is having an event on the 9th floor of this building with the Chairman of the MPR, Bambang Soesatyo. During the event, he saw smoke. Adjutant and protocol asked his entourage to leave the location.

"In the beginning, I saw smoke coming from the 9th floor, so with the adjutant, the same protocol, I continued to say, there was a fire going down and down," said Edison.

All DPR leaders were evacuated, including the Chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani. He was taken to a safer place. Apart from Puan, Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly Ahmad Basarah also appeared to be evacuated.

Based on information from the Central Jakarta Fire Department, the origin of the fire was known on the 2nd floor, which spread to the 8th floor. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire was still being handled by officers.

A total of 11 fire engines were still trying to put out the fire which was reported at 12.00 WIB. Now officers are focusing on evacuating residents and making ventilation to get rid of smoke. (Gabriella Thesa Widiari)
