Bali Immigration Arrest Fugitive Interpol From Russia

DENPASAR - The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bali, arrested an Interpol fugitive from Russia for being involved in fraud and criminal organizations in the country.

"We leave it to the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Bali Police for further mechanisms," said Ngurah Rai Immigration Chief Sugito in Denpasar as reported by ANTARA, Friday, September 1.

The arrest of the Russian fugitive with the initials PM was based on Interpol's request through the National Central Bureau (NCB) of the International Relations Division of the National Police Headquarters.

The 32-year-old man has been on "Interpol Red Diffusion" (Ird) and is suspected of being involved in a criminal case since January 13, 2023, he said.

The National Police Headquarters sent a letter requesting assistance to participate in finding and arresting PM on August 15, 2023.

PM was secured by the Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Team (Inteljakim) of Immigration Ngurah Rai on August 31, 2023 and immediately examined on the same day.

Based on the initial examination, the PM has a residence permit that is valid until September 5, 2023.

However, Immigration did not reveal when the PM entered Indonesia and the type of visa used.

Based on the Ngurah Rai Immigration examination, he said, to meet the needs of life while in Indonesia, the PM admitted that he received a shipment of 3,000-4,000 US dollars per month from his family in Russia.

"The arrest of PM is a good form of synergy between NCB Interpol Police Headquarters and the Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights," said Sugito.

For follow-up to PM, he explained, the International Relations Division of the National Police Headquarters will be determined through the Bali Police.

As a world tourist destination, Bali Immigration often deals with rogue foreign nationals (WNA), including abusing residence permits, bypassing residence permits, criminal acts to violating norms, and applicable legal rules in Indonesia which lead to deportation.

The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Bali as of Wednesday (30/8) recorded that 213 foreigners from 45 countries had been deported with the largest number coming from Russia as many as 59 people, the rest of the United States 14 people, England (13), Australia (12), and Nigeria (9).
