JAKARTA - The Riau Islands Regional Police have revealed cases of sexual abuse against minors using seduction and an allowance of IDR 1,000.

"The modus operandi is that the suspect seduces a minor by giving an allowance of Rp1,000," said the Head of Sub-Division of Penmas for Public Relations of the Kepri Police, AKBP Imran in Batam, Riau Islands, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, February 3.

The Riau Islands Police apprehended the suspect UT (47) at his residence in Batam in the early hours of Tuesday. When interrogated by investigators, he said, the suspect admitted that there were six girls aged four to seven.

"This suspect is a recidivist of the murder case in Dabok Singkep in 2004 and has served his sentence for 6 years," he said.

Kasubdit IV Ditreskrimum Polda Kepri AKBP Dhani Catra Nugraha said the case originated from the report of a mother of a four-year-old daughter who experienced sexual immorality from her neighbor on February 1.

"We will continue to investigate this case and do not rule out the possibility that there are still many victims," he said.

According to him, most of the victims of sexual immorality were children under the age of five.

"When we examined the suspect, many said he forgot, but of course our investigation does not stop there," he said.

When asked about the chemical castration sentence, he handed it over to the judge who later decided.

"What is clear is that this suspect has already served a sentence in a murder case, this suspect is a recidivist and I am sure that the sentence will be even harsher," he said.

The authorities secured evidence in the form of a child's trousers, one long sleeve shirt, one child's toy, one shirt, one striped shorts, one underwear, one undershirt and one Rp1,000 note.

The suspect charged under Article 82 Paragraph (1) and Paragraph (4) of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 17 of 2016 concerning Stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law Number 1 of 2016 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection Into Law Law, with a minimum penalty of five years and a maximum of 15 years and a fine of IDR 15 billion.
