Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency: There Is A Cumulonimbus Clouds Over Jakarta When Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 Was Taking Off

JAKARTA - Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati said there were cumulonimbus clouds before and during the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 flight.

"The weather conditions before and when Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 taking off contained cumulonimbus clouds over Jakarta and began to decay along with reduced rain intensity and increased visibility", said Dwikorita in a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission V House of Representatives, Wednesday, February 3.

The meeting was broadcasted on the official Facebook of the Indonesian Parliament discussed the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 incident when it took off from Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Cengkareng, Tangerang on January 9.

Furthermore, this cloud is also present on the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 flight route from Jakarta-Pontianak which stretched over the western part of Java Island which is moving towards the Southeast.

This condition, continued Dwikorita, can be observed from the analysis of the Himawari Satellite Image which shows that the cloud peak temperature ranges from minus 43 degrees Celsius to minus 48 degrees Celsius.

Based on Radiosonde data from January 7-9, the potential for icing (freezing) is at an altitude of 16 thousand to 27 thousand feet.

"Meanwhile, at an altitude of around 11 thousand feet, there is no potential for icing", she said.

As previously reported, the Sriwijaya Air aircraft PK-CLC SJ registration number 182 for the Jakarta-Pontianak route lost contact on Saturday, January 9 at around 14:40 WIB and crashed in the waters of Kepulauan Seribu between Lancang Island and Laki Island.

Based on manifest data, the aircraft that was produced in 1994 carried 62 people consisting of 50 passengers and 12 crew members, 40 adults, seven children, three toddlers. Meanwhile, the 12 crew consists of six active crews and six extra crews.

Of the total 62 passengers on the plane, the total identified bodies by the Police Disaster Victim Identification team was 58 people.
