What Is Vehicle Exhaust Gas Threshold? Police Hold Raids As Efforts To Suppress Pollution

YOGYAKARTA - The police will conduct a vehicle exhaust emission test raid as an effort to reduce air pollution in Jakarta. The raid will be carried out starting August 26, 2023 by capturing two- and four-wheeled vehicles that do not pass the emission test. Therefore, the public needs to know the threshold for vehicle exhaust emissions.

"The August 26 date will begin tomorrow," said Senior Commissioner (Kombes) Latif Usman, Traffic Director of Polda Metro Jaya, to reporters in Jakarta, Wednesday (23/8/2023).

The vehicle emission test raid has been carried out by the Surabaya Transportation Service (Dishub) on the western side of Jalan Raya Frontage Ahmad. In its implementation, the Transportation Agency and the local police found a number of vehicles that had gas emissions exceeding the threshold.

Each community is advised to use vehicles with gas emissions according to the applicable threshold in order to reduce the level of air pollution. So what is the threshold for vehicle exhaust gas emissions?

Before the vehicle is launched to be used on the road, motorized vehicles must undergo the emission test process first. There is a certain limit value in emission tests that must be obeyed by vehicles so that they are allowed to be used.

The standard limit in the exhaust emission test for each vehicle is not uniform or the same. The emission limit rate depends on various factors, such as the type of vehicle, the year of production, to the fuel. The threshold for emissions between new vehicles and old vehicles is not the same.

It should be noted that the emission threshold for young vehicles (new vehicles) is carbon monoxide (CO) of 1.5 percent of Vol and hydrocarbon (HC) of 200 ppm Vol. Meanwhile, for old vehicles (2006 production year and below), the emission threshold is that CO levels below 3.0 percent of Vol and hydrocarbons must be below 700 ppm Vol.

Based on Governor Regulation (Pergub) Number 66 of 2020 in DKI Jakarta, people are required to undergo emission checks for motorized vehicles that are 3 years old or older. This rule explains that emission checks must be carried out regularly, once a year.

There are various sanctions imposed on motorized vehicles that do not meet the various emission inspection standards. The maximum sanction for two-wheeled vehicles is IDR 250,000 and four-wheeled vehicles are fined a maximum of IDR 500,000.

That is information on the threshold for vehicle exhaust gas emissions. People who use two-wheeled and four-wheeled motorized vehicles are required to comply with the emission threshold rules. Because maintaining air quality or reducing pollution levels is a shared responsibility for everyone.
