Acting Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Muhamad Mardiono asked the Constitutional Court to immediately decide on a judicial review of the provisions for the presidential and vice presidential age limit regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections.

According to Mardiono, the Constitutional Court should decide on the judicial review before registering for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates to the General Elections Commission (KPU) which will start on October 19, 2023-25 November 2023.

"Hopefully the Constitutional Court can immediately answer through its decision from the lawsuit to the two parties, both those who want the election to be presidential and vice-presidential candidates to be a maximum of 65 years old, and those who are at least 35 years old. This is so that the decision will be answered immediately before the election is held," said Mardiono, August 23.

According to Mardiono, the longer the Constitutional Court decides on the judicial review, the more polemic it will cause in the community. Therefore, for the benefit of the community, the Constitutional Court should immediately decide on a judicial review of the provisions on the age limit for these presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

"In my opinion, so that the people will have more calm, certainty, the Constitutional Court should immediately answer with a decision," said Mardiono.

He reminded the Constitutional Court to provide certainty for the 2024 election stage. According to him, the Constitutional Court needs to prevent the judicial review from becoming a wild ball or wild opinion that could interfere with the 2024 election stage.

"We want of course the Indonesian people to have certainty so that they can provide political choices for the future. So they are not disturbed by opinions," concluded Mardiono.

It is known, there are three different requests regarding the judicial review of the provisions on the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates as regulated in the Election Law. First, the application asking the Constitutional Court to decide the minimum age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates to be 35 years from the current 40 year rule.

Second, the request for the Constitutional Court to decide the maximum age limit for the presidential candidate is 70 years. Third, the application asking the Constitutional Court to set a presidential and vice presidential age limit of at least 21 years and a maximum of 65 years, and a person may only run for a maximum of two times.
