WFH Is Considered Not A Solution To Overcome Air Pollution In Jakarta

JAKARTA - Public policy observer from Trisakti University Trubus Rahadiansyah assessed that the implementation of work from home (WFH) is not a solution to overcome air pollution in the capital city.

"Regarding this pollution, the short-term context is not WFH," Trubus said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 14.

Trubus gave an example such as an appeal for the implementation of WFH for workers on September 5, 2023, to coincide with the 43rd ASEAN Summit.

According to him, WFH seemed like a drug that suddenly 'healed' a problem. The application of WFH is said to be not just a discourse, but must be evaluated and continued.

If you want to implement WFH, he continued, it is also necessary for the government to embrace all parties, including the private sector, by providing compensation or providing consequences if there is a violation.

According to Trubus, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government should optimize the emission test in accordance with Governor Regulation Number 66 of 2020 concerning Motor Vehicle Exhaust Emission Tests. Currently, emission tests for Trubus are not carried out seriously.

"Implemented emission tests. If possible, issue a policy of limiting the age of vehicles. However, it also takes courage because the enemy is a car business actor, used cars and used motorbikes," he said.

However, Trubus understands that the governor's regulation cannot be optimally due to budget constraints and the lack of public education regarding emission tests.

"This is short-term. After that, it depends on the weather as well so people think that it's something that doesn't have to be done," he concluded.

Air quality in the capital city of Jakarta occupies the first position as the city with the worst air in the world on Sunday (13/8) morning.

Based on data from the IQAir air quality monitoring site at 06.00 WIB, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Jakarta is at 170 or is categorized as unhealthy with PM2.5 air pollution.

Based on the level of pollution, Jakarta is estimated to be in the category of unhealthy conditions for the next few days until Tuesday (15/8).
