PDIP Still 'Pade' Wins Even Though Not Supported By Big Political Parties, Wins 2014 Presidential Election While Alluding To SBY's Name

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) remains confident in winning the 2024 presidential election even though it does not get support from major political parties.

It is known that Golkar and PAN have decided to join the Gerindra-PKB coalition to nominate Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate.

PDIP DPP chairman Ahmad Basarah said that this political situation is normal for the party chaired by Megawati Soekarnoputri. Basarah then brought up the 2014 presidential election where his party could win against Prabowo who was supported by the authorities, in this case the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhono (SBY).

"(Pilpres, red) 2014 we are also sleek, we face presidential candidates, vice presidential candidates who were supported by the president who was in power at that time. Pak Hatta Rajasa was the besan of President SBY at that time," said Basarah at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, August 14.

Basarah also brought up the PDIP issue which was considered not a big party by a number of political experts. Moreover, support for Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at that time was only from NasDem, Hanura and PKB.

"The parties calculated by political observers were not big parties at that time, only with NasDem, PKB, and Hanura. Meanwhile, Pak Prabowo and Hatta Rajasa were supported by big parties and at that time," said Basarah.

"President SBY, who was in power at that time, his party also supported the Prabowo and Hatta Rajasa pairs at that time, if I'm not mistaken," he continued.

Therefore, Basarah said there was nothing to worry about PDIP in the 2024 presidential election. Because, he said, in the end, when the party won, other parties would come closer to working together.

"So for PDIP the things we usually face. We used to work together, but we also used to work with friends who weren't too much. After all, finally when we won at that time, finally the friends also came to us to work together in the government," said Basarah.
