Alert! A Number Of Areas Have The Potential For Forest Fires

JAKARTA - A number of parts of Indonesia have the potential to experience forest and land fires (karhutla). As well as heavy rains that can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds on Saturday, according to the weather early warning of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Quoting Antara, the potential for forest and land fires is in East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.

The BMKG appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for forest and land fires and not to burn for any purpose.

On the other hand, BMKG conveyed the potential for heavy rain that could be accompanied by lightning or lightning, namely in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Banten, North Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, and Papua.

There are several areas that have the potential to experience strong winds, namely Aceh, South Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, North Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, and North Maluku.

Previously, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) stated that weather modification technology operations over the past few years have become a permanent solution in efforts to control forest and land fires in Indonesia.

The Coordinator of the BRIN Weather Modification Technology Management Laboratory, Budi Harsoyo, in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday (10/8), said that the El Nino phenomenon that occurred this year had the potential to cause forest and land fires to be bigger than before.

"Since April, this year's weather modification technology operation has been carried out simultaneously in a number of provinces prone to forest and land fires, both for the purpose of wetting peatlands and extinguishing forest fires," he said.
