JAKARTA - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) has invited the Chairman of the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI), Haris Pertama, to apply for protection.

This followed Haris's confession about the threats he received after reporting social media activist Permadi Arya alias Abu Janda to the Police.

"If Haris feels threatened and needs state protection as a reporter of a crime, he can access his rights according to the law to apply for protection to the LPSK," said LPSK Deputy Chairman Maneger Nasution Nasution in his statement quoted by Antara, Monday, February 1.

Previously, a number of media reported that Haris claimed to have experienced a number of events which he considered terror from an unknown person after reporting Permadi Arya alias Abu Janda to the Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

Haris posted the report regarding Abu Janda's tweet about "Islam is an arrogant religion".

Nasution said, if Haris later filed a protection application, LPSK would process the request with due regard to the requirements stipulated in the Witness and Victim Protection Act.

In the law, he said, the subjects of protection provided by LPSK consist of witnesses, victims, reporters, perpetrator witnesses and experts. "In this case, Haris is the reporter of a crime," he said.

Nasution said that the protection provided by the state was intended so that witnesses, victims and reporters could play a role in helping law enforcers uncover a criminal act without fear of intimidation or threats.

"Protection as an effort to fulfill the rights and assistance to provide a sense of security to witnesses and / or victims that must be carried out by LPSK in accordance with the provisions of the Witness and Victim Protection Act," he said.

LPSK protection for witnesses and / or victims, said Nasution, was provided with a number of conditions, including the important nature of the witness and / or victim's testimony, the level of threats that endanger the witnesses and / or victims, and track records of criminal acts that witnesses and / or witnesses have committed. victim.
