Sigi Earthquake Damaged Residents' Houses, Hundreds Of Villagers Of Kamara Refuge

PALU - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi said as many as 803 families (KK) in Kamarura Village, Nokilaki District were affected by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3.

"A total of 3,141 people in two villages in Nokilaki District were affected by the earthquake," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of Central Sulawesi Province BPBD, Andy A. Sembiring in Palu as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 7.

Based on the provisional report, the number of affected residents in Kamarura A Village was 1,794 or 496 families.

Of the total population, he said, the displaced residents amounted to 210 people or 38 families.

Meanwhile, the number of affected residents in Kamarura B Village was 1,347 people or 406 families.

"Residents took refuge in Kamarura B Village as many as 317 people or 101 families, with 158 men, 159 women, 16 elderly, one disabled, nine babies, 27 toddlers and 15 children," he said.

The Central Sulawesi BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC) together with the Sigi Regency BPBD and local village officials are still conducting assessments, and helping residents in disaster-affected locations.

Not only Kamarura Village, based on a temporary report from the Central Sulawesi BPBD TRC, there was damage to 10 housing units in Lembantongoa Village, Palolo District with the type of crack damage to the walls, and three housing units could not be inhabited because they were heavily damaged and residents set up refugee tents.

"The total number of houses affected or damaged, we and the local village officials are still in the process of collecting data," he said.

His party has coordinated with a number of technical agencies to strengthen further handling, ranging from infrastructure, social, health economy to logistics of Bangan materials, including vertical agencies.

"From the meeting we held, each Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD) involved had duties and responsibilities," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Sigi Regency Office, Ariyanto, has been in the field since Sunday (6/8) night to conduct field assessments and bring emergency social assistance.

The Sigi Social Service distributed social assistance in the form of food, tents, mats, blankets, and mattresses.
