JAKARTA - The head of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Panji Gumilang, did not fulfill the summons for an examination of the alleged blasphemy case. However, the reason is not because he is afraid to face the legal process.

"He is an educated person, so there is no fear whatsoever," said Panji Gumilang's attorney, M. Ali Syaifudin, to reporters, Thursday, July 27.

According to him, Panji Gumilang will always be cooperative in dealing with the process of investigating the alleged blasphemy case.

However, in this case, the head of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School could not fulfill today's summons. The reason is because of fatigue due to busy activities.

"However, the current condition is not possible," he said

Ali stated that although various alleged criminal acts have emerged, this has no effect on his client's activities.

Every day Panji is said to be still teaching at the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School. In fact, involved in several studies.

"Maybe he's busy, yes, there are teaching, there are a lot of research," said Ali.

Previously, the National Police said Panji Gumilang asked investigators to schedule his examination next week.

"The attorney for PG asked for the examination to be carried out on Thursday, August 3, 2023," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, to reporters, Thursday, July 27.

In the petition, the Panji Gumilang legal team has also included a doctor's certificate. It contains the health condition of the head of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School.

"The person concerned could not be present to be examined as a witness on the grounds that he was sick and was included in the doctor's certificate," said Ramadhan.
