JAKARTA - The Commissioner for General Elections (KPU) Arief Budiman stated that his party supports the preparation of a national COVID-19 vaccination program.

Arief offered to the government, in the distribution scheme for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine to be injected into the public, it could use the election logistics distribution method.

He conveyed this at a work meeting related to the continuation of the plan to use election voter data in order to support the COVID-19 vaccination program.

"Hopefully, not only the data, but also the structure that the KPU has can help the Ministry of Health carry out its duties. There is also the KPU's experience which may also be asked for help to contribute to this vaccination program. One of them is regarding the distribution of logistics", Arief said in a virtual meeting, Friday, 29 January.

According to Arief, the KPU as the election organizer has the experience and already understands how to determine priority distribution points, as well as the best route, land, sea, and air, in terms of distributing vaccines in remote areas.

"Hopefully our experience in various conditions, both geographic and weather, will hopefully make a positive contribution to this vaccination program", said Arief.

In addition, Arief said that the Ministry of Health could imitate the general election scheme using polling stations (TPS) for the vaccination program for the general public.

"For example, the officers are at the regency or sub-district level, but the target population will be given vaccines such as the polling station-based. So they can classify them into groups based on the polling station who can be asked to come to the point or location where the vaccination is held", he explained.
