JAKARTA - Series of cases of personal data leakage continue to occur. Cybersecurity expert and Chairman of the Indonesia Cyber Security Forum Ardi Sutedja said the Government needs to be more transparent with the public in terms of handling data leakage so that it can maintain public integrity and trust in cybersecurity systems in Indonesia.

"Public trust in the ongoing digital system needs to be maintained so that in handling data leakage, transparency needs to be put forward. So that people see that there is firmness from the regulator and this shows the integrity (of the government) to the public," Ardi said in a discussion via podcast in Jakarta, Saturday.

Ardi said that so far in cases of alleged data leaks that have occurred in recent years, the government has not been open in terms of handling these cases and has made people begin to lose their trust.

Therefore, with Law number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection (PDP) which is currently being drafted for derivative regulations, he hopes that transparency and publication of data leakage case handling can be regulated through the regulation.

Thus, the public can continue to believe that the Government is still protecting privacy as part of the rights of citizens.

"We already have regulations, it's just a matter of how the Government dares to take firm steps if there is a data leak. Because the problem with data leakage is not only data but regarding the integrity and public trust in the Government," said Ardi, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, July 22.

In addition to preparing budgets and regulations to ensure the security of Indonesian citizen data is safe in the digital space, Ardi also reminded the government to maintain good communication with technology and industry experts.

Thus, the Government can know technological developments in terms of cyber security and can prepare appropriate preventive measures in maintaining public security and public privacy in the digital space.

"The presence of the state needs to be improved, it must always be able to connect with practitioners in the industry so that we can exchange ideas between industry players and the state. Learn from other people's experiences so that security is better," added Ardi.
