Mukomuko Found Rabies Case, Vaccine Service 1,000 Pets

MUKOMUKO - The Agriculture Office of Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu Province, is targeting the administration of vaccines to 1,000 rabies-contagious animals such as dogs, cats and local monkeys in 2023. "We administered 1,000 rabies-contagious animals in August 2023," said Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Division of the Mukomuko Regency Agriculture Service Diana Murwahyuni, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 4. The Mukomuko Regency Government through the Agriculture Service proposed vaccine assistance for 1,000 rabies-infecting animals to the local provincial government. He said his agency proposed a vaccine to prevent rabies-infected animals from being infected with the provincial government because they had a vaccine stock for rabies-infecting animals. "We don't have a budget for buying rabies vaccines. For that we apply for rabies vaccines to the provincial government to carry out rabies vaccinations in this area," he said. He said, local governments need rabies vaccines to prevent animals such as dogs, cats, and pet monkeys from local residents suffering from rabies disease. Moreover, after finding rabies disease in cases of dog bites in the Pondok Suguh sub-district area since some time ago. He said, based on data results, only one person who was bitten by rabies-infected animals and the animal was declared rabies positive. Regarding the elimination of rabies-infecting animals, he said, veterinarians should not be involved in destroying rabies-infecting animals because the duty of veterinarians protects instead of destroying. Furthermore, he suggested, for people who have pets such as dogs, cats, and monkeys not to be removed.

While the treatment of stray dogs, he said, is targeted for elimination, but his agency does not yet have a budget for elimination. Meanwhile, he said, farmers and cat and dog lovers took the pet to a veterinarian to get a complete vaccine to prevent rabies.
