Police Unload Illegal Factory That Supplied Cosmetics To Beauty Clinic

JAKARTA - The police have uncovered an illegal cosmetic factory that supplies various facial care products to clinics and beauty doctors in Jakarta. In that case, three people were named as suspects.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus said the suspects made and distributed various types of cosmetics without obtaining permission from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).

"According to the statements of the suspects, they threw them into a cosmetic shop in Jakarta. Even the consumers were doctors who did receive this item, a dermatologist. We are still exploring everything," said Yusri in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 18.

They are NK, MF and S. All three have different roles in running an illegal business that has been going on since 2015.

For the suspect, NK played a role in buying raw materials for making cosmetics. In addition, graduates of the Faculty of Chemistry at one of the universities also participated in making cosmetics. Meanwhile, MF suspect also mixed cosmetics without a definite measure and was also the person in charge for production.

Meanwhile, suspect S played a role as a figure who supplied or marketed these products to clinics and beauty doctors. They got to know each other because they had worked at the same cosmetics company.

"They learned that they had worked in a cosmetic company, he (the suspect) knew the ingredients and was used as a basis for self-teaching to make (products). He knew what the mixture was like, measured it himself. The ingredients could be found in a chemical shop," said Yusri.

For approximately four years of operation, an illegal cosmetic factory located in Kampung Jajar, Depok, West Java, can reap hundreds of millions of profits every month.

Kresno Wisnu Putranto, Head of Section 1 Sub-Directorate 3 of the Drug Research Directorate, said that although the suspects had the ability to make beauty products, it was just that during the manufacturing process they did not use clear measurements.

Thus, several samples of beauty products made by the suspects are currently being investigated by the BPOM to ensure there are elements or hazardous substances if used.

"They actually know what ingredients are used, only the ingredients used are still measured. From the measurements that have been made, they should be tested at the POM center, whether this is feasible or not," said Kresno.

In addition, in the manufacturing process, it was said, the perpetrators did not use tools that were in accordance with the existing regulations. They only mix various raw materials and then process them manually.

"This engine is only stirred. The model uses a mixer. So he is mixed with a spatula only manually," said Kresno.

For all their actions, the suspects were charged under Article 196 subsidiary Article 197 in conjunction with Article 106 of Law 36 of 2009 concerning Health with the threat of 10 years in prison and a fine of Rp1 billion.
