Komnas HAM Is Still Investigating Allegations Of TIP Involving Universities In West Sumatra

The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Representative of West Sumatra continues to investigate allegations of a criminal case of trafficking in persons (TPPO) involving one of the universities in the province.

"Komnas HAM West Sumatra representatives have asked for information from the campus by digging up several things," said Head of Komnas HAM, West Sumatra Representative, Sultanul in Padang, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 4.

Sultanul mentioned several things that were investigated by the human rights institution, including those regarding mechanisms, procedures, and regulations related to the implementation of sending students abroad (commerce).

Komnas HAM West Sumatra representatives also asked for a number of documents related to the implementation of sending students abroad.

During the search and deepening, Komnas HAM West Sumatra also asked for an explanation from the Payakumbuh State Agriculture Polytechnic as a university that sent 11 students to Japan some time ago.

"Komnas HAM is also exploring what efforts have been made by the campus as a form of assistance to students suspected of being victims of TIP," he said.

Not only efforts against dozens of students suspected of being victims of TIP, but Komnas HAM is also exploring what the university's steps are so that similar cases do not happen again.

Currently Komnas HAM West Sumatra representatives are still waiting for answers to a number of investigations that have been submitted to the Payakumbuh State Agriculture Polytechnic.

In addition to requesting information from the university, Komnas HAM Center will also or will be coordinating with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), including the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police as the party directly handling the case.
