BNPB Targets House Reconstruction For Mamuju-Majene Earthquake Victim To Be Completed In 6 Months

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is targeting completion of the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Mamuju Regency and Majene Regency, West Sulawesi Province to be completed in 6 months. The completion target is specifically for housing reconstruction.

"We are targeting the data collection and administration process to be completed until February 2021. Hopefully from February to July 2021 there will be no more evacuations," said the Head of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Division of BNPB, Rifai as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 26.

He hopes that the data collection and verification process of residents' houses damaged by the earthquake, both in Mamuju Regency and in Majene Regency, can be completed soon until February 2021.

"Based on the agreement, the deadline for data collection on damaged houses, whether lightly, moderately or severely damaged, is to this day. However, while the processing of data collection, we continue to enter the data on residents who have entered and of course we will wait until everything is completed".

"We are still waiting and hoping that by February 2021, everything will be completed, so that residents will immediately leave the refugee camps and they will return again to houses that were slightly damaged and moderately damaged. We will immediately hand over 100 percent of the funds," said Rifai.

Meanwhile, for residents whose houses were severely damaged, he added, the houses were aligned with light and moderate damage.

Rifai admitted that he had written to several vendors who had experience in constructing houses affected by the earthquake.

"We have written to several vendors who already have access to such operations. This instant house is easier, faster and safer. In principle, the instant house is built better and safer, where later all the technical specs have the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) plus earthquake-resistant house recommendation," said Rifai.
