Earthquake M5,1 Guncang Jayawijaya, No Damage Report Yet

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 shook Jayawijaya. The earthquake occurred at around 04.49 WIT, Monday, January 25.

Jayawijaya Police Chief AKBP Dominggus Rumaropen said that until now there had been no reports of damage caused by the earthquake.

"Until now there has been no report on the impact of the earthquake," said Dominggus.

However, he said, his party had asked the polsek to check in their area to determine whether there was damage caused by the earthquake or not.

"When there is a report, I will inform you again," promised the former Mamberamo Raya Police Chief.

Previously, BMKG reported a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 that occurred in Jayapura Regency and had no potential for a tsunami.

The epicenter of the earthquake is located at the coordinates of 4.48 South Latitude and 138.83 East Longitude, or precisely located on land at a distance of 48 km south of Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua at a depth of 15 km.

By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was of a shallow type due to local fault activity and was felt in Wamena, II-III MMI.

From the results of BMKG monitoring, it has not shown any after-earthquake activity so that people are advised to remain calm.
