Two People Died Due To Landslides In Kupang City

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara, reported a landslide incident in Kupang City, early Monday morning, which resulted in the death of two residents.

"The landslide occurred at around 05.00 WITA around the banks of the Liliba river at RT16 / RW04 Tuak Daun Merah Sub-district," said Head of BPBD Kupang City Maxi Didok when confirmed in Kupang, reported by Antara, Monday, January 25.

He said the landslide incident killed two people who were a husband and wife with the initials PT and M.

The landslide victims who died have been evacuated and are currently at Leona Hospital, Kupang City, he said.

When contacted, Maxi was at the scene of the incident, explaining that the landslide occurred in a quite steep and very dangerous place.

When a landslide occurred, he continued, a large rock in a higher area was released and hit the houses of the dead victims who were below.

Maxi said that the houses around the landslide location seemed to only hang on the cliffs so that when water infiltration occurred from waste or rain water with a high enough intensity it caused landslides.

"Because of that we are already at the location to carry out countermeasures and if possible, today we will relocate the community first because the rainfall conditions are quite high so it is very dangerous," he said.
