Klungkung Regent I Nyoman Suwirta said the need for clean water in Nusa Penida is a top priority for the Klungkung Regency Government considering that surface water sources are very limited to meet the needs of residents, especially since the development of tourism in Nusa Penida is quite busy.
Because Nusa Penida has limited raw water sources, sea water can be used as an alternative choice to be processed using nano filter membranes that produce freshwater with quality to meet drinking water quality standards.
Therefore, the Klungkung Regency Government is making various efforts so that people can enjoy drinking water services optimally by building a clean drinking water treatment plant through Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Technology.
This was marked by the laying of the first stone for the construction of a clean drinking water treatment plant through Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) technology in Jungutbatu Village, Nusa Penida District, Klungkung Regency.
SWRO technology, he said, is a salt water treatment method using the reverse osmosis membrane to separate the salt content so that the resulting water becomes freshwater. The advantage of SWRO technology is the size of filters that can produce hygienic and high quality water, and are more energy efficient with the use of Positive Displacement Pump.
"I am grateful because today the SWRO development process can start. Drinking water is a top priority, especially since tourism is currently growing in Nusa Penida," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 1.

Meanwhile, Director of PT Tiara Cipta Nirwana I Made Gde Putroyasa said that the SWRO construction was carried out through a collaboration between the Tirta Mahottama Water Company in Klungkung Regency and PT Tiara Cipta Nirwana.
He stated that the SWRO that was built was targeted to be able to produce 110 liters/second of water.
