Police Arrested For Coffee Farmers Growing Cannabis In The Backyard

JAKARTA - Officers from Rejang Lebong Resort Police, Polda Bengkulu, managed to arrest a coffee farmer in the area who was caught planting 36 cannabis trees behind his house.

The Head of Rejang Lebong Police, AKBP Puji Prayitno, accompanied by the Head of Narcotics Unit Iptu Susilo, said that the suspect was As (37), a resident of Kampung Jeruk Village, Binduriang District. The suspect was arrested by officers on Friday morning at around 00.05 WIB.

He explained that the suspects were temporarily caught in the act of violating Article 111 paragraph 2 of Law no. 35/2009, on Narcotics with the threat of life sentence or 20 years and a minimum of 4 years in prison.

The arrest of the suspect As, he said, was based on information provided by the public to officers in December 2020 and after a long investigation and raids were carried out.

The location of the marijuana cultivation itself is behind his house, because previously the place of his business had been an act of theft so that this cannabis garden was fitted with a zinc plate wall which was given electricity (stroom) and a rope trap, if there was a theft it could be immediately identified.

Based on the suspect's confession to investigating officers, the cannabis cultivation has been carried out by him since the last year but has not been able to sell it.

He added that during the arrest, the suspect's house also found a rifle (kecepek) type of long-barreled firearm, so they investigate whether this was used to guard marijuana gardens or hunting.

"This suspect, before planting the cannabis plant on the land the size of the lot in his yard, first planted it using used motorcycle tires which were covered with soil and plastic," he said.
