JAKARTA - The Nunukan Regency Government, North Kalimantan (Kaltara), recorded a significant increase in the number of micro, small and medium enterprises during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nunukan Regent Hj Asmin Laura Hafid said the number of MSMEs previously was recorded at 2,400 businesses. And now there are 13,000 businesses both production and culinary.

"According to a report from the Cooperatives and UMKM Service, the number of MSMEs currently stands at 13,000 businesses, compared to 2,400 entrepreneurs before COVID-19," explained Laura as quoted by Antara, Friday, January 21.

The increasing number of MSMEs in Nunukan Regency during the COVID-19 pandemic indicates that the economy remains stable. Laura assessed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, community innovation and creativity, especially business actors, remained high in order to maintain the regional economy.

Laura also hopes that the COVID-19 pandemic will end soon and appeal to the public to be disciplined in carrying out health protocols.

One of the culinary business actors in Nunukan Regency, Andi Fajrul, assessed that the high interest of the community in opening a culinary business proves that the economy is still normal during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"If I look at Nunukan's economy, it is still stable despite the COVID-19 pandemic with the increasing public interest in making businesses such as cafes and restaurants," he said.
