JAKARTA - The poster titled Free Rabi or free marriage is circulating in Surabaya. In the poster with the red background, there is a photo of the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi. The Surabaya City Communications and Information Office (Diskominfo) in East Java Province ensures that the information contained in it is a hoax.

Head of Surabaya City Diskominfo M. Fikser said that the city government does not hold free marriage activities as stated in a poster entitled Free Rabi which is circulating on social media.

"I make sure it's a hoax. The Surabaya City Government does not have such an event. This is the act of irresponsible hands," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 27.

Fikser regretted the circulation of posters containing the inappropriate writings. "Of course this is troubling the public," he said.

He conveyed that the Surabaya City Government provides various services for free, including health and social services as well as job exchanges.

"Well, this poster will certainly harm people who really need services," he said.

Fikser again reminded residents not to spread content and information without first confirming the truth.

He said that hoax spreaders could be subject to criminal sanctions under Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions.

According to the provisions of the law, any person who intentionally and without rights spreads false and misleading news that results in consumer losses in electronic transactions can be sentenced to a maximum of six years in prison and/or a maximum fine of IDR 1 billion.

"Once again, we urge all parties, especially netizens, not to spread content or information that can make people hope, but it turns out that the information is not true," said Fikser.
