Violating Rules, 6 Climbers Are Prohibited From Climbing Mountains Throughout Indonesia For 2 Years

CIANJUR - The Center for Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) in Cianjur, West Java, again imposed sanctions on six people who carried out illegal climbing, and were prohibited from climbing mountains throughout Indonesia for 2 years.

Head of the TNGGP Center, Sapto Aji, said that since the closing of the climb was enforced on May 15, 2023, officers assisted by influencers and residents have carried out joint patrols to avoid illegal climbers.

"Officers found two groups of climbers from Jakarta and Bandung with a total of six people, on the Mount Gede hiking trail, when asked they were climbing from Mount Putri," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 25.

The six climbers were immediately taken to the TNGGP Center office, because they had clearly violated the climbing rules which were closed due to weather factors and ecosystem recovery to an undetermined time limit.

The climber is included in the black record of climbing for all mountains in Indonesia for two years, after collecting data and being asked for information they are allowed to return to their respective areas of origin.

"The netting of six illegal climbers adds to the list of climbers of black records who previously 20 climbers were sanctioned, some of whom violated the rules by turning on a smoke bomb at the top of Mount Gede," he said.

His party asked climbers who have often climbed mountains in Indonesia, especially Mount Gede-Pangarano, to become intelligent climbers who do not violate the rules, starting from registering officially, preserving nature and not leaving garbage on the hiking trail.
