JAKARTA - The land movement disaster in Ciherang Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, has become more widespread. Hundreds of residents from two neighborhood units (RT) in the area chose to flee to the school building and to a safer family home.

"From the temporary data, this disaster that hit RT 01 and 02, RW 02, Cijangkar Village, Nyalindung District, is likely to expand because new cracks are found. Residents whose homes are affected and threatened, some choose to flee to a safer place," said ProBumi Indonesia volunteer Asep Has in Sukabumi quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 19.

Temporary data from the District Disaster Management Officer (P2BK) Nyalindung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Sukabumi Regency, the number of refugees in RT 01 as many as 22 heads of families (KK) or 62 people.

Of the 62 residents, 23 people or eight families of them chose to take refuge in the SDN Ciherang building and the rest or as many as 14 families (39 people) fled elsewhere, such as in the homes of their relatives.

Then for RT 02, there were six families who took refuge in SDN Ciherang and those who fled elsewhere (family houses) were 16 families or 41 people, so that in total for this RT there were 22 families or 66 people.

Thus, the total number of refugees coming from the two RTs is 44 families or 128 people. It is possible that the number of displaced residents will continue to increase because until now land movement is still ongoing.

Until now, there are dozens of houses in three RTs that are included in RW 02, whose conditions are in danger. For details, in RT 01 there are eight houses inhabited by nine families or 27 people, then in RT 02 the total is 25 units inhabited by 29 families or 91 people and RT 03 houses under threat of 21 units inhabited by 21 families or 42 people.

Thus, the total number of houses under threat is 54 units with 59 households or 160 residents. Residents whose houses are in danger of disasters from land movement still prefer to stay at their homes.

Meanwhile, joint officers, both from BPBD, TNI, Polri and volunteers continue to monitor this condition, especially now that the rainfall is quite high which can cause massive ground movement.

"Assistance for the refugees has been distributed, such as sleeping and bathing equipment and ready-to-eat food, such as that distributed by the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Sukabumi Regency Government and other institutions," said Asep Has, who is also a PMI volunteer.

Asep said that until now the joint officers were still monitoring the condition of the land movement in Ciherang Village. The impact of this disaster is that a number of residents' houses have collapsed, cracked and their conditions are tilted.

It is likely to be repaired difficult to do, because the ground is constantly moving, such as shifting and subsiding. Asep also appealed to residents who were still in his house to always be vigilant.

With the current high rainfall, it is feared that the movement of the soil will become more massive. If you feel or see signs of impending disaster, immediately evacuate or contact the nearest officer for an evacuation, he said.
