Ganjar Pranowo Welcomes The Support Of The Confederation Of Trade Unions For The 2024 Presidential Election

JAKARTA - Presidential candidate from the PDI-P, Ganjar Pranowo, welcomed the support of the all-out trade union confederation in Indonesia in winning it in the 2024 presidential election. He expressed his gratitude and ready to fight together on the issue of labor.

"I thank you. The important thing is to build a joint agenda regarding the issue of future labor. And how to create a balance in the context of existing industrial relations," said Ganjar after meeting a number of chairmen of the Indonesian trade union confederation in Jakarta, Monday, May 1.

Asked if Ganjar would include the issue of labor in his vision and mission as a presidential candidate, he said the context was still long.

"But in my opinion this discussion is something important and meaningful. Right on the day of the workers, so the idea is all devoted and certainly inspiring," he explained.

Ganjar said that so far he has been concerned about labor issues. Every time there is a labor problem, he always meets and discusses many things, including the formula.

"I tell the labor organizations that every time there is a demonstration and the permit has been entered, I usually call first. We invite them first so that we get more detailed, clearer information," he explained.

So, if the demands are submitted in a very open forum, then the workers and the government both understand each other. But if if later that is enough, the target is conveyed to the government, then on the day before the demonstration, they have met with Ganjar.

"This method turned out to be much more effective. So that industrial relations are much better. That way we can also listen much cleaner," he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, said that after meeting Ganjar, his party was more determined to all out win Ganjar in the 2024 presidential election.

"After discussing with Pak Ganjar, it further strengthens us to fully support Mas Ganjar as a presidential candidate for Indonesia," he said.

Because in the discussion, many things were discussed regarding the problems of workers and regulations. Andi assessed that Ganjar really understood this and Ganjar had the same vision.

"So we feel there is a match, there is a krek in the term Mr. Jokowi. For that we make sure we will all out to support Pak Ganjar as a presidential candidate," he concluded.

Andi explained that the strength of workers in Indonesia is very large. From the survey results, there are 55 million workers in Indonesia and 7.8 million migrant workers. If multiplied by their partner, the number is very large.

"So we are optimistic that we will win Pak Ganjar. We have won the election three times. One DKI gubernatorial election with Pak Jokowi, then the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections, a hat trick," he concluded.

As previously reported, a number of trade union confederation leaders in Indonesia along with dozens of members visited Ganjar Pranowo in Jakarta, Monday, May 1. They stated that they would all out support Ganjar Pranowo as president in 2024.

There were at least 12 labor confederations that came to Ganjar. They came after holding a May Day action in front of the Presidential Palace. The group was led by the Chairman of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea and the Chairman of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions, Said Iqbal.
