New COVID-19 Cases In East Java Reach 1,198 Today

SURABAYA - The addition of COVID-19 cases in East Java Province reached 1,198 cases, the fourth highest nationally. This new case in East Java is also a new record, the highest from the previous 700 to 900 new cases.

"But it has only reached 1,198 today, because previously an average of 800-900 new cases. Actually, we also added 1,004 cases, it was the 10th, exactly the day before PPKM," said the spokesman and staff of the East Java COVID-19 Task Force Curative Group, Makhyan. Jibril Al Farabi, confirmed Friday, January 15.

One of the most contributing regions that caused the increase to reach 1,198 cases today is Nganjuk Regency, which is 230 new cases.

Therefore the East Java Provincial Government has implemented Nganjuk as a PPKM area like the 11 other regions.

"The high number of cases in Nganjuk is one of the red zone areas in East Java, and is also a consideration for the implementation of PPKM," he said.

Based on the risk map for the COVID-19 application Bersatu Against COVID-19 by the Central Task Force, apart from Nganjuk, currently there are Mojokerto Regency, Mojokerto City, Madiun City, and Kediri Regency which are the red zones. Madiun City, which previously applied PPKM because it met the four PPKM criteria from the Ministry of Health, is now also a red zone.

The addition of regions that implement PPKM in East Java is contained in the Governor of East Java Decree Number 188/11 / KPTS / 013/2021 concerning amendments to the previous Decree on PPKM.

"There are three PPKM considerations. The Ministry of Health's recommendation fulfills the four criteria from the Ministry of Health, and the red zone. Madiun City previously met four criteria, now it has become a red zone," said Jibril.

According to him, all new cases that occurred in Indonesia, including in East Java, were generally cases where the transmission originated from local transmissions. One of them is the household cluster that is often found.

"The problem is almost the same in Indonesia, the pandemic is skeptical. Yes, people are tired of wearing masks, nowadays we are even more difficult to track people who are coming in and out than in the past," said Jibril.
