BANDA ACEH - Commission I of the Aceh People's Representative Council (DPRA) met with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs Suhajar Diantoro to request support for the plan to revise the Aceh Qanun regarding the Jinayat Law.

"We ask for full support from the Ministry of Home Affairs so that the revised qanun jinayat can be followed up to strengthen the implementation of Islamic law in Aceh," said DPRA Commission I chairman Iskandar Usman Al Farlaky in Banda Aceh as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 4.

Iskandar said that the revision of the qanun jinayat only targeted several articles related to the protection of Acehnese women and children.

"Our consideration is Law Number 11 of 2006 concerning the Government of Aceh (UUPA). The penalties we apply are cumulative, no longer an alternative," he said.

Because of this, Iskandar asked the Ministry of Home Affairs so that the results of the facilitation of the qanun could go according to the expectations of the Acehnese people so as not to cause polemics in the future.

Regarding this, Iskandar said that the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs Suhajar Diantoro welcomed and immediately discussed the matter with the ranks in charge of regional law products.

"He (Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs) welcomes it. Hopefully, it can be completed soon and the revision of the qanun jinayat will not hang," said Iskandar.

Discussion on the revision of Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning Jinayat Law has been completed at the end of 2022 and the results have been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs for facilitation.

However, until now the process of facilitating the revision of the qanun has not yet been completed, so its ratification is still pending.
