JAKARTA - The Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) asserts that it has found no indication of gross human rights violations in the shooting case involving the police and members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) on the Jakarta-Cikampek KM 50 toll road or the Karawang incident.

Komnas HAM Chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik said that his party had indeed found human rights violations because there were unlawful killings committed by the police. However, there are no indications that point to gross human rights violations.

"We convey that as many outside signals have circulated that this is said or assumed to be a gross human rights violation, we have found no indication in that direction," Taufan said in a press conference held at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Office after meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, Thursday. , January 14th.

According to him, in order to determine if there was a gross human rights violation in an incident, several indicators must be met. "For example, there is an operation design, there is a structured order, commanded, and others, including repetition indicators," he said.

However, in these events, no indicators were met. So, Damanik said, the investigation team for this incident only determined that there had been a violation due to the loss of life.

"And in the future, we recommend that they be brought to the criminal court to prove what we indicate as unlawful killing," he said.

"Komnas certainly hopes that later there will be a legal process that is accountable, transparent, and the whole public can witness it," he added.

It was reported earlier that six members of the FPI laskar were shot dead by a member of the police who was then assigned to follow the Imam of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Rizieq Shihab in an effort to investigate cases of health protocol violations in Petamburan and Megamendung, West Java.

Furthermore, Komnas HAM stated that there had been human rights violations following the deaths of the four FPI members.
