The Existence Of An ATM Of Rp. 20,000 Denomination, Which Is Still Badly Needed

JAKARTA - Some time ago, netizens on Twitter were busy discussing automated teller machines (ATMs) that still provide Rp20 thousand in denominations. It's just that the existence of an ATM with the smallest withdrawal nominal is rarely encountered.

One of them, a politician from the Democratic Party, Jansen Sitindaon, also reminisced about the Rp20 thousand banknote ATM. He recalled the existence of a very useful 20 thousand ATMs, where the smallest denominations released at that time were IDR 20 thousand and IDR 50,000.

Economic researcher from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF), Bhima Yudhistira, said that ATMs with IDR 20 thousand denominations are still very much needed. Because the nominal money withdrawal is relatively small, these 20 thousand ATMs can be placed around schools, markets, or campuses.

"Most of the Rp20 thousand denomination ATMs are still needed by students, students and traders," said Bhima when contacted by VOI, Monday, February 10 evening.

He said that several banks still maintain ATMs of 20 thousand, some of which are DKI Bank, BNI and Bank Mandiri. Even so, they did not exist much, because usually private banks were no longer targeting small denominations of money.

They prefer target customers from the middle and upper classes. When viewed in terms of transactional activities, the corporate market often transacts in large amounts.

However, said Bhima, ATMs in the Rp20 thousand denomination are still being looked at by the aspiring middle class, which number around 115 million people in Indonesia.

"They are not poor but vulnerable to poverty. They are predominantly not in the city, but in the regions," said Bhima.

Separately, Bank DKI Corporate Secretary Herry Djufraini revealed that his party still maintains a withdrawal of Rp20 thousand from its ATM service. According to Herry, the ATM can be used for community needs.

Moreover, Bank DKI is a banking service used by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in distributing the Jakarta Smart Card program and the Superior Student Jakarta Card to students and university students.

"Therefore, we have placed a number of ATMs with these fragments in several segmented locations such as Pamulang University," said Herry.

He explained, since February 2020, Bank DKI has had 1085 ATM machines spread across Bank DKI service offices, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government offices, BUMD offices, private agencies and hospitals, public facilities, shopping centers, and mobile cash cars.
