The Southeast Sulawesi Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) has asked people in Wakatobi Regency to protect the habitat of rare birds of glasses from the threat of extinction.
"A eyeglass bird (zopterops flavissimus) is a protected bird so that people are prohibited from catching it," said Head of BKSDA Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) Sakrianto Djawie, in Kendari, Antara, Tuesday, March 21.
Previously, the Southeast Sulawesi BKSDA had released dozens of rare species of eyeglasses from Wakatobi Regency which were confiscated from the hands of unscrupulous people.
The eye birds of the four types, he said, were secured on a people's transport ship from Kendari-Wakatobi which was to be sold outside the area.
The glasses were secured as many as 64 healthy. Sakrianto Djawie added that the release of the endangered animal was in collaboration with the Wakatobi National Park Office, Wanci Regional Quarantine, and the South Wangi-wangi District Government, as well as traditional figures.
"The release of endemic birds in Wakatobi Regency was carried out together in the Motika Forest, Wanci Island, Wakatobi Regency," said Sakrianto.
The Southeast Sulawesi BKSDA continues to educate the public regarding the preservation of glasses from Wakatobi which are regional assets.
