Pandemic COVID-19, Commission III DPR No Visit To Police Chief Candidate House

JAKARTA - Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) has canceled visits to the house of the prospective National Police Chief to replace Police General Idham Azis, who entered retirement at the end of January.

Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Herman Hery said that all members and leaders of Commission III of the DPR agreed at an internal meeting on Tuesday, January 12, to cancel the visit due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation that has hit Indonesia.

"We have decided in the meeting earlier. For this time we will not have a visit to the residence. Why? The situation is the COVID-19 pandemic. It is unethical to flock to people's homes," Herman told reporters quoted by Antara.

The visit to the residence of the candidate for the National Police Chief was held on 30 October 2019. At that time, the visit was carried out before the fit and proper test regarding the nomination of Police General Idham Azis as the Chief of Police was carried out.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Desmond Junaidi Mahesa said that Commission III of the DPR saw how the daily life of the National Police Chief and his family and assessed their lifestyle.

A dialogue was held with Idham Azis' family at that time so that the harmonization of the family, even the school life of the children of the National Police Chief, was reflected.

During the visit, Commission III of the DPR also asked the views of the surrounding community who had certain notes regarding the figure of Idham Azis.

A visit to the residence of the National Police Chief candidate was also held on June 22, 2016. At that time, Commission III of the DPR visited the residence of the Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency Tito Karnavian, who is now the Minister of Home Affairs.
