The Mataram City Environment Agency (DLH) has alerted officers to handle waste after the ogoh-ogoh parade which was held to welcome Nyepi Day on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

"We have prepared a waste management team for the rest of the ogoh-ogoh parade to ensure the cleanliness and beauty of the city road," said Head of the Mataram City Environment Service HM Kemal Islam in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara Province, Sunday, March 19, as reported by Antara.

"So, as soon as the ogoh-ogoh parade was over, hundreds of our officers immediately went down to clean up so that the road on the route to the ogoh-ogoh parade could be cleaned again," he added.

He said that the remaining garbage from the ogoh-ogoh parade could reach up to about two tons because the activity was attended and witnessed by many people from inside and outside the city of Mataram.

After Nyepi Day, Muslims will start fasting Ramadan.

Kemal said that based on experience in previous years, the volume of waste during the month of Ramadan is usually around 200 tons per day in Mataram City.

"The waste volume during fasting remains stable, which is around 200 tons per day, and for the hours of throwing away and transporting garbage remains the same, there is no change," he said.

He said that the garbage transportation in Mataram City was carried out from 09.00 to 12.00 WITA and then continued at 15.00 to 18.00 WITA.

However, he continued, the time for placing waste at the Kebon Kongok Final Processing Site (TPA), West Lombok Regency, which was previously until 18.00 WITA, is now limited to 16.00 WITA.

According to him, the imposition of these restrictions makes the waste that can be transported to the TPA decrease to around 50 tons per day.

"We keep the garbage that has not been transported in the depot or TPS to sort it so that the waste to the TPA is also reduced," he said.

He said that the Mataram City DLH seeks to optimize the selection of waste in temporary waste shelters to reduce waste that must be transported to the Kebon Kongok TPA.
