While NTSC Analysis: Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 Machine Still Life Up To 250 Feet

JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), Soerjanto Tjahjono, said that his party had conducted a temporary analysis regarding the crash of the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 aircraft.

The KNKT collects radar data (ADS-B) from Perum LPPNPI (Airnav Indonesia). From this data, it was recorded that the plane was airborne at 14:36 WIB, flew towards the northwest and at 14:40 WIB the plane reached an altitude of 10,900 feet.

When it experienced a flight stall or malfunction, the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 aircraft began to descend. The latest data on the aircraft that can be recorded stopped at an altitude of 250 feet or about 76 meters.

"Data recorded up to 250 feet indicates that the aircraft system is still functioning and capable of transmitting data. From this data we suspect that the engine was on before the plane hit the water," Soerjanto said in his statement, Tuesday, January 12.

Then, based on other field data obtained by the NTSC and KRI Rigel, the wreckage distribution is 100 meters wide and 300 - 400 meters long.

"This wide distribution is consistent with the assumption that the aircraft did not experience an explosion before hitting the water," said Soerjanto.

The findings of aircraft parts that have been collected by Basarnas, one of which is the engine part, namely a turbine disc with a damaged fan blade.

"The damage to the fan blade indicates that the engine was still working during the collision. This is in line with the suspicion that the aircraft system is still functioning up to the aircraft at an altitude of 250 feet," he said.

To this day, the NTSC investigation process is still ongoing and is still carrying out several activities, including continuing to search for balck boxes, collecting aircraft data, and aircraft crews, conducting several interviews with related parties and other activities.
