Donald Trump Approves Emergency In Washington, Tightening Security

JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump has approved a statement of emergency conditions in Washington DC. This was announced by the White House Press Office, after receiving input and warnings about threats before the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden from the security authorities.

This agreement was followed by permission from the president to extend federal assistance until January 24, to support stability efforts in Washington DC.

Launching Al Jazeera, this declaration enables the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to identify, mobilize and provide the equipment and resources needed to reduce the impact of an emergency.

This condition was caused by the potential threat that existed at the inauguration of Joe Biden, as well as reflecting on the riots on Capitol Hill which was carried out by Donald Trump's supporters on January 6.

As previously reported, the FBI has warned of the threat of armed demonstrations in the US capital and all states ahead of the inauguration.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser submitted a letter to Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf.

Bowser also asked the Department of Homeland Security to extend emergency provisions allowing federal and local agencies to prepare for Joe Biden's inauguration. At the same time requesting security directions from the FBI on January 11-24.

It is known that one of the security preparations carried out was to deploy the National Guard. They have the authority to send up to 15 thousand members to Washington. However, for the initial phase only 10,000 National Guard troops have been alerted since last Saturday to support security, logistics and communications.

"The number could increase to 15,000 members if requested by local authorities," said National Guard Chief Gen. Daniel R. Hokanson, told Reuters, Tuesday, January 12.
