JAKARTA - Constitutional judge Anwar Usman was re-elected as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court for the term of office from 2023 to 2028. Anwar Usman was elected in a plenary meeting of constitutional judges in the election of the chairman and deputy chairman of the Constitutional Court at the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 15. In the Constitutional Court Regulation Number 6 of 2023 concerning Procedures for the Election of the Chairperson and Deputy Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, it is stated that the election is held by deliberation and consensus in a closed plenary meeting of judges to the public. The plenary meeting of judges that was closed to the public began at 11.00 WIB. Nine judges agreed that the decision was made based on the most votes through The voting in the plenary meeting of judges is open to the public in the Plenary Courtroom on the Second Floor of the Constitutional Court Building. Voting is open to the public starting at 14.00 WIB. In the first round, nine judges have the right to be elected and elected, both for the chairman of the Constitutional Court and the deputy chairman of the Constitutional Court. In the first round, Anwar Usman and Arief Hidayat each received four votes for the position of chairman of the Constitutional Court, while one constitutional judge's vote was deemed invalid. Meanwhile, for the position of deputy chairman of the Constitutional Court, Saldi Isra received five votes, Daniel Yusmic Pancastaki Foekh received three votes, and one vote was declared invalid. The plenary meeting then decided the constitutional judge Saldi Isra as Deputy Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court for the term of office 2023 to 2028. Furthermore, the position of chairman of the Constitutional Court was re-elected for the second round after Anwar Usman and Arief Hidayat each received four votes. In the second round, the draw came back, namely Anwar Usman and Arief Hidayat each getting four votes, while one vote was declared invalid. The election resumed in the third round with the final result Anwar Usman getting five votes and Arief Hidayat getting four votes. Anwar Usman, was born in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, December 31, 1956. He has served as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court since April 2, 2018. The next agenda, based on PMK Number 1 of 2020 concerning the Constitutional Court Trial, the elected chairman and deputy chairman took the oath that was carried out in the special plenary session of the Constitutional Court.
