Former Langkat Regent Publishes Plan To Be Tried In Forestry And Environment Cases

JAKARTA - Investigators of Civil Servants (PPNS) for the Environment and Forestry of North Sumatra (North Sumatra) are facilitated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to carry out phase two against the former Regent of Langkat Terbit Rencana Perangin Angin.

The files and suspects related to the alleged forestry and environmental crimes will be transferred to the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati).

"TRP (Plan Warin Angin Plan) is suspected of being charged with forestry and environmental crimes," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri in a written statement, Monday, March 13, 2023.

Ali ensured that the granting of this facility was in accordance with the permission of the Supreme Court (MA). This licensing is needed because the KPK is still waiting for the cassation decision in the bribery case that ensnared Terbit.

"As for the description of the suspect's actions, it is fully under the authority of PPNS investigators and prosecutors at the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office," said Ali.

The KPK previously filed an appeal against the decision of the Terbit Plan. The reason is that the appeal verdict handed down by the panel of judges has not fulfilled the principle of justice.

At the first instance of the trial, Terbit Rencana was sentenced by the judges of the Central Jakarta District Court to nine years in prison. However, at the appeal level the sentence was reduced to seven years and six months by the Jakarta High Court.

As for this case, Terbit was charged with accepting bribes worth Rp573 million from Muara Perangin Angin businessmen. This gift is related to work packages at the Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) and the Langkat Regency Education Office in 2021.
