SURABAYA- Surabaya City Government said the relocation or transfer of the third wave of residents of Kampung 1001 Nights to the Simple Rental Flats (Rusunawa) was targeted to be completed before the month of Ramadan.
According to Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi (Cak Eri), the relocation is carried out in stages by prioritizing residents who live under the toll road bridge in the first and second waves, as well as residents living around the toll road divider fence in the third wave. The relocation is carried out taking into account the needs and readiness of the existing Rusunawa.
In the first wave, the Surabaya City Government brought as many as 16 families (head of families), the second wave as many as 44 families, and the third wave on Thursday (9/3) as many as 36 families, and Friday (10/3) as many as 17 families.
Meanwhile, for the 17 families who are currently being relocated, they are divided into three Rusunawa locations, of which 15 families are placed in Rusunawa Benowo Pakal, 1 KK in Rusunawa Romokalisari, and 1 other KK in Rusunawa Indrapura.
"We agreed that on March 14, 2023, we had to move all of them to the flats. Less than 20 families and the time to change, Alhamdulillah, they want all of them. So that the place can be used for river normalization to prevent flooding, so we can pass there," he said, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, March 11.
Cak Eri explained that most of the residents of the former Kampung 1001 Malam were relocated to Rusunawa Sumur Welut and Benowo Pakal. For this reason, he said, the Surabaya City Government carried out various persuasive approaches to the residents of Kampung 1001 Nights.
"To make sure that this is not the land they have (they own) but when it is built (the house) if (the river) is narrowing, then the impact will be flooding. So that's what we did and Alhamdulillah everything went smoothly," added Cak Eri.
Cak Eri hopes that in the future, after all the residents are transferred to a more appropriate place. The Kampung 1001 Malam area will be used by the owner of the Brantas River Basin Center (BBWS) for the expansion of bozem and revitalization according to its function.
"It's a river area, that's why there are floods in the area or Asemrowo, so we are normalizing the river which has not been effective so far," he said.
On that occasion, one of the residents of the former Kampung 1001 Malam Sofyan (53) admitted that he was grateful for the relocation carried out by the Surabaya City Government. This is because he, who lived with his grandparents for 7 years in the area, can now get a more decent housing in the 1st floor of the Indrapura Rusunawa.
