Viral On Twitter Hashtag Boycott Bank Syariah Mandiri: Suspected Of Freezing FPI's Account

JAKARTA - PT Bank Syariah Mandiri (BSM) is said to have taken steps to freeze accounts of companies affiliated with the Islamic Defenders Front or FPI. This is widely discussed by Twitter users in Indonesia using the hashtag #boikotsyariahmandiri.

Several netizens shared their tweets regarding this matter. One of them is the Fe_Bintang account which wrote a tone of disapproval for this financial service institution owned by PT Bank Mandiri Tbk.

"Just withdraw your savings from Bank Mandiri Syariah. Banks are playing in the politics of #boikotsyariahmandiri, ”he said on Sunday, January 10.

Likewise, the account @Gaknyehar__ also shared his views on the suspicion of account suspension which was allegedly related to FPI activities. In fact, these netizens questioned the attitude of banks whether they could impose the same policy against misappropriators of state funds.

"Are the accounts of the corruptors' families also blocked?" he called.

Based on the information gathered by the editorial staff, BSM is believed to have unilaterally suspended accounts for customers who are the daughters of FPI leader Rizieq Shihab.

Until this news was released, Bank Syariah Mandiri responded to VOI regarding the suspicion of blocking the customer's account.

For information, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) has provided recommendations and approval for the freezing of around 65 FPI accounts and other accounts affiliated with the organization.

The temporary suspension of the account is carried out in accordance with the authority of the PPATK based on Law Number 8 of 2010 concerning the Prevention and Eradication of Money Laundering (TPPU Law) and Law Number 9 of 2013 concerning the Prevention and Eradication of Terrorism Financing Crime.
