Threatened Impeachment, Donald Trump Is Also Abandoned By His Loyalists

JAKARTA - President Donald Trump is gradually losing his loyalist support after the riots on Capitol Hill when the US Congress was discussing the results of the US Presidential Election which was won by Joe Biden, Wednesday, January 6.

A number of officials at the White House are known to have resigned and are considering resignation. Meanwhile, Trump's Republican colleagues have also supported efforts to get Trump to end his term early. This happened when Donald Trump was threatened with facing impeachment which was initiated by the Democratic Party in the US House of Representatives.

"He lost our support, he lost his own government. As I said, many of us feel betrayed," said a senior government official, as reported by Reuters.

This condition was exacerbated by the broken relationship between Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. Both are known to have not spoken, after Pence was deemed to have failed to find a loophole so that the US Congress would not approve the results of the US Presidential Election.

Trump's party colleagues have started to 'leave him'. Lisa Murkowski became the first Republican senator to say Trump must resign. Republican Senator Pat Toomey, who is a conservative Trump supporter, said Donald Trump's resignation as soon as possible would be better for the United States. Meanwhile, Ben Sasse, another Republican Senator, admitted that he would consider (support) impeachment.

It is known, after the riots on Capitol Hill, a number of White House officials chose to resign. Among these, First Lady Melania Trump's top aide Stephanie Grisham. A number of other officials are also considering resigning, such as National Security Adviser Robert O''Brien and his deputy Matthew Pottinger.

White House Social Secretary Rickie Niceta and White House Deputy Secretary Sarah Matthews are also reportedly resigning. There is also Deputy White House Chief of Staff Chirs Liddell who is said to be resigning.

Next there are Transport Minister Elaine Chao and Education Minister Betsy DeVos resigning on Thursday local time last week. The two are joined by a number of officials who previously resigned.

There are also four senior advisers on the White House National Security Council who also stepped down. They include Senior Director of African Affairs Erin Walsh, Senior Director for Defense Policy Mark Vandroff, Senior Director of Weapons of Mass Destruction Anthony Rugierro and Senior Director Middle East and North African Affairs Rob Greenway.
