The defendant in the bribery case for accepting new students (PMB) at the University of Lampung (Unila) in 2022, Karomani, has a time deposit deposit in Bank Lampung amounting to IDR 1 billion.

This was revealed by witness Giani Putri Arif during the follow-up trial of the PMB Unila bribery case with the defendant Karomani as the former Chancellor of Unila, former Vice Chancellor I Unila Heryandi and former Senate Chairperson M Basri.

"Pak Karomani has two active accounts at Bank Lampung, one of which is worth Rp. 1 billion in the Deposit Futures account at Bank Lampung," said Giani at the Tanjungkanrang District Court, Bandarlampung, Tuesday, March 7.

Witness Giani said that the deposit of Rp. 1 billion came from the previous deposit at Bank Lampung of Rp. 500 million which was opened in 2020, then transfers from Bank BNI of Rp. 450 million and Rp. 50 million were given in cash.

"I received directions from my superiors for pick up service to the Rectorate of Unila, there he had a previous deposit of Rp. 500 million. Then the money was disbursed and allocated to Rp. 1 billion plus Rp. 450 million which was transferred through RTGS Bank BNI by his secretary or assistant Pak Karomani. Then Pak Karomani gave another Rp. 50 million in cash at the Rectorate to fulfill the Rp. 1 billion," he said.

When asked by the KPK Public Prosecutor Dian Hamisena regarding the origin of the funds deposited by the defendant Karomani to Bank Lampung, Giani said that Karomani's source of funds was his savings when he was young and from the restaurant business.

"Mr. Karomani said that the money from his funds when he opened the new deposit was from his savings funds when he was young and the restaurant business. Currently, the two accounts have been held or blocked," he said again.

Prof Karomani along with two other defendants, namely former Deputy Chancellor I for Academic Affairs Unila Prof. Heryandi and former Senate Chairperson Unila Muhammad Basri himself became defendants in the alleged 2022 PMB Unila bribery case.

In this case, the KPK has named four suspects consisting of three people as bribe recipients, namely Prof. Dr. Karomani (former Chancellor of Unila), former Deputy Chancellor I for Academic Affairs Unila Heryandi, and former Senate Chairperson Unila Muhammad Basri. Meanwhile, the suspect who gave the bribe was the private party, Andi Desfiandi, who had been sentenced by the panel of judges.
