JAKARTA - Commission II of the DPR will summon the General Election Commission (KPU) to discuss the issue of the noise over the postponement of elections after the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court (PN Jakpus) on the Prima Party's lawsuit. The meeting will soon be scheduled even though the DPR is currently still in recess until March 13. Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Ahmad Doli Kurnia said the KPU summons to the DPR to ensure that the 2024 General Election stage is still ongoing. He hopes that the KPU will file an appropriate appeal against the Central Jakarta District Court's decision. "We will summon the KPU as the election organizer to ensure that preparations continue," Doli told reporters, Friday, March 3. Doli emphasized that the implementation of elections every 5 years has been regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections. So he said, the schedule set by the DPR, the Government and election organizers could not be postponed. "This election is regulated in the law (UU). Even our Constitution says that the election is once every five years. So it runs out from 2019, 2024," said the deputy chairman of the Golkar Party. According to Doli, the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court is not appropriate because if you want to postpone the election, then what is being questioned is the Election Law. That too, he said, became the domain of the Constitutional Court (MK). "Well, so if you want to question the law, that's the domain of the Constitutional Court, not the domain of the District Court," said Doli. Therefore, Doli considers that the Central Jakarta District Court's decision on the Prima Party's lawsuit is not completely binding. He ensured that Commission II of the DPR would oversee the KPU to continue the process of the 2024 General Election. "In my opinion, as long as the law has not changed, this election is the legal umbrella for Law Number 7 of 2017, and now we are all making preparations for it. The stages are already underway, right, all elements in the election are already working, so just go ahead," said Doli. Previously, the Indonesian KPU emphasized that it would continue to carry out the stages of holding the 2024 General Election after the Central Jakarta District Court's decision ordered the KPU to stop implementing the 2024 General Election stage and start from scratch. "We need to emphasize that the KPU will continue to carry out the stages of implementation or holding the 2024 General Election," said KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali, Thursday, March 2. According to Hasyim, his party is still implementing the 2024 General Election stage because the Central Jakarta District Court's decision regarding the Prima Party's lawsuit does not target the KPU's legal product in the form of KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 3 of 2022 concerning the Stages and Schedule for the 2024 General Election. Thus, he continued, the legal basis for the stages and schedule of the 2024 General Election is still valid and has binding legal force to form the basis for the KPU to continue the implementation of the 2024 General Election stage.
