PONOROGO - The East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency recommended the relocation of a total of 43 families in their homes directly affected by the liquefaction disaster in Tumpuk Village, Ponorogo Regency.

This was conveyed directly by the East Java BPBD Chief Executive Gatot Soebroto after inspecting the location of the liquefaction which caused dozens of houses to be damaged and hundreds of residents evacuated.

"After seeing the incident site, the condition of the ground cracks turned out to be quite severe. Therefore, we hope that all residents can move to the places that have been provided," Gatot said as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 1.

When carrying out a field visit with the Head of the East Java Public Housing, Settlement Area and Human Settlement Service (PRKPCK) Office and the Head of Bakorwil I Madiun, Gatot found that the condition of the ground cracks continued to experience additions.

Apart from increasing in length and spreading over dozens of points, the ground fissures also appear to be getting deeper every day.

Currently, the depth of subsidence has reached 20-40 centimeters.

Residents whose homes were affected also began evacuating furniture and items that were deemed still usable.

"There are 43 families who have taken refuge in evacuation shelters that we have prepared at the former village hall," said the Head of Tumpuk Village, Imam Sulardi.

According to him, the damage to houses caused by ground movement is currently getting worse. Therefore, there is no other choice but relocation.

He hopes that the BPBD of Ponorogo Regency and East Java BPBD will be able to assist the relocation process that the residents want.

BPBD also helped affected residents evacuate furniture and belongings, and handed over a number of aids to residents which were symbolically handed over by the Head of Bakorwil Madiun and Head of PRKP Cipta Karya and East Java Settlements Office.

The assistance was in the form of 50 food packages, 50 blankets, 50 toothpaste, 50 toothbrushes, 50 bath soap, 50 towels, and 25 mats.
