Palace Yakin, Electric Cars In Indonesia In The Future Will Be Introduction

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said that the world of electric vehicles in the country in the future will mushroom like micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Moeldoko conveyed this when giving a speech at the 2023 Indonesian International Motor Show (IIMS) automotive exhibition at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Friday.

"If later the batteries, motorcycles, dynamo, and controllers are produced in Indonesia, the world of electric cars (vehicles) will take a long time, such as MSMEs," said Moeldoko, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, February 24.

For this reason, continued Moeldoko, from now on the development of research on components of electric vehicles must be optimized so that Indonesia can become a major player in the world electric car industry.

"Indonesian sons/daughters must maximize this momentum. Do not let other countries take it. We must not be followers, but must become an industry," he said.

Moeldoko, who is also the chairman of the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo), said that the Government is strongly committed to accelerating the development of battery-based electric vehicles.

This commitment was realized by the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 55/2019 concerning the Acceleration of the Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle Program, and Presidential Instruction No.7/2022 concerning the use of electric vehicles as government official vehicles.

"This is a trigger to grow the electric vehicle industry. As the trigger, the government has also prepared an incentive scheme so that people switch to electric cars," he explained.

At the end of his remarks, Moeldoko emphasized the importance of all parties having the same awareness of the importance of accelerating the development of battery-based electric vehicles in order to realize the Indonesia Zero Emission by 2060.
