Prisoners Of Ex-Terrorism Become A Contra-radicalism Part

JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) hopes that former terrorism convict Ali Fauzi Manzi, who has just won a doctorate at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), can become part of the counter-radicalization initiated by the institution.

"It is hoped that it can be part of counter-terrorism efforts," said BNPT Head Komjen Polisi Boy Rafli Amar as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, February 24.

The three-star general also hopes and encourages former terrorism convicts to also follow in Ali Fauzi Manzi's footsteps in academic matters, as well as being part of counter-radicalization and terrorism programs.

"They (ex-terrorism convicts) want us to continue to push schools," said the former Papuan and Banten Police Chief.

To note, Ali Fauzi Manzi is an ex-terrorism convict. He has just won a doctorate from UMM with his dissertation related to religious moderation for ex-terrorism convicts.

Ali Fauzi is known to be a former combat officer who is also an expert in bomb assembly, and is a member of the East Java Jamaah Islamiyah.

On that occasion, Boy also appealed to the public not to isolate former terrorism convicts. Because, they (former terrorism convicts) must be embraced so as not to return to their previous lives.

From the government side, former terrorism convicts continue to be embraced to be able to develop themselves to be better by following the social reintegration process.

Some of the programs carried out by the government, for example, established an Accounting For the Business Association for the Gelorakan State of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (Warung) of the Republic of Indonesia, the Archipelago Integrated Area (KTN) and other programs.

Boy said both KTN and Warung NKRI, ex-terrorism convicts were encouraged to develop various potentials. For example, farming, raising livestock, attending work training centers and so on.
