JAKARTA - Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin said two patients had suspected status in Cirebon and Ambon, unlikely to be confirmed to have Atypical Progressive Care Disorder (GGAPA).

"There have been identified in Cirebon and in Ambon. But the newly identified (suspect) has not been confirmed," said Budi Gunadi Sadikin after attending the inauguration of the Genomic Laboratory and signing of the MoU at the TB Simatupang Pharmaceutical Company, Jakarta, Monday, February 20.

He said the two pediatric patients were unlikely to have GGAPA, because the administration of ordinary antiviral drugs was proven to react to the symptoms they experienced.

"The medical team from the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) Jakarta confirmed that the symptoms experienced by patients were decreasing," Budi added.

"Last night I spoke with friends at the RSCM, maybe it's not necessarily GGAPA. Because when I was given the infection drug, it fell (the symptoms)," he said.

Generally, GGAPA confirmed patients, said Budi, need intervention in providing antiviral Fomepizole to treat the symptoms that arise. It can't just be done with ordinary infection drugs," he said.

According to Budi, the patient's blood sample is currently being studied at the Jakarta RSCM laboratory to ensure that the connection between symptoms arising from the risk of poisoning the sirop drug is due to the level of the raw material for the solvent Ethilen Glikol/Diethilen Glikol (EG/DEG) exceeding the safe threshold.

"The laboratory results for the blood and medicine have not come out yet, and may only come out this afternoon. We will see if there are any EGs and DEGs," he said.

The Ministry of Health announced that the safe threshold for EG/DEG contamination in the raw materials for the rapid solvent of the Glikol Propilent drug was set at less than 0.1 percent, while the safe threshold or Tolerable Daily Intake (TDI) for EG and DEG contamination on drug mild did not exceed 0.5 mg/kg of body weight per day.

If the raw material exceeds the provisions of a safe threshold, it risks triggering kidney damage to result in acute kidney failure.

Previously reported, two DKI Jakarta residents aged 1 and 7 were reported to have experienced GGAPA. One confirmed case died and the other was a suspect and was undergoing intensive treatment.

With the addition of new cases reported GGAPA, up to now there have been 326 cases of GGAPA and four suspects spread across Indonesia. Of these, 116 cases were declared cured.
