JAKARTA - Chairman of the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN) Airlangga Hartarto explained the reasons for the government to tighten the PSBB in Java and Bali on January 11-25, or for only two weeks.

The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs said that this tightening was carried out at the right time. Because, this coincides with the government's prediction that there will be a spike in COVID-19 cases after the Christmas and New Year holidays.

"Based on existing experience and data, after the big holiday there was an increase in cases of 25 to 30 percent, which if we count the new year, it falls in the middle of January," said Airlangga in a BNPB Indonesia Youtube broadcast, Thursday, December 7.

Therefore, Airlangga said the potential increase in cases would be guarded by tightening the PSBB. Plus, the capacity for special COVID-19 care will be increased by 30 percent in each region.

"So, of course this is what encourages the government to remind the public of the importance of discipline. So, the key is discipline and health management," said Airlangga.

Plus, Indonesia will start its COVID-19 vaccination in mid-January. Airlangga said that the tightening was right before the vaccination process.

"Indeed, some countries such as in England, for example, in the lead up to vaccination, they also locked down cities. But, once again we are not a lockdown, we are just restrictions," he explained.

The tightening is in six provinces, but it is carried out on a micro scale for each district / city. In the DKI Jakarta Province, it applies in all administrative cities, namely North Jakarta, West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, East Jakarta, South Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands.

In West Java, the city of Bogor, Bogor Regency, Depok City, Bekasi City, Bekasi Regency, and Bandung Raya areas such as Bandung City, West Bandung Regency, Cimahi Regency are tightening.

Banten Province is located in the Tangerang Raya area, namely Tangerang City, Tangerang Regency, South Tangerang City.

In Central Java Province are Semarang Raya, Solo Raya, and Banyumas Raya. In DI Yogyakarta are Yogyakarta City, Bantul Regency, Gunung Kidul Regency, Sleman Regency, and Kulonprogo Regency.

In East Java are all areas of Malang Raya and Surabaya Raya. Meanwhile in Bali are Denpasar City and Badung Regency.
