During 2022, the Social Service of South Konawe Regency (Konsel), Southeast Sulawesi, handled 42 cases of violence against children or increased compared to the previous year of only 32 cases. "If you refer to data from the South Konawe Social Service, it is still quite high if compared to the same case in 2021, so it must be a serious concern for all parties, because the next generation of the nation is at stake," said the Head of the South Konsel Social Service, Nurlita Jaya, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 16. Based on the data, from the Social Workers for Child Protection of the South Konsel Social Service, he said, the number of child crimes occurred, both from acts of violence and sexual harassment. According to him, the trigger for the occurrence of violence such as child rape under age, initially victims and perpetrators became acquainted through social media, taking the opportunity to seduce and persuade child victims and then rape. "The case of child crime occurs due to the supervision of very lacking parents, minors are given the freedom of access to social media," he said. In handling cases of violence or child sexual harassment, said Nurlita, the Social Service of Konsel through professional social workers who directly went to the field to respond quickly to assisting and providing psychosocial support services to victims and also their families. Previously, the Child Protection Social Workers of the Ministry of the Indonesian Region of Konsel, Helpin Ezza explained, cases of children who were accompanied by the police, prosecutors to the court stage were 42 cases, including the dominance of cases of sexual crimes, followed by cases of violence or persecution. Therefore, Helpin asked parents to provide education and supervision in interaction both the real world and cyber world. "The role of parents here is an important point ranging from the use of social media to association in the real world by children, needs to be monitored," he said.
