Decreasing Health Condition, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Visits NU Figure KH Ali Yafie

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin visited Rais Aam, the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) for the 1991-1992 period, Kiai Haji Ali Yafie at the hospital Thursday (16/2/2023) (ANTARA).

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin visited Rais Aam, the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) for the 1991-1992 period, Kiai Haji Ali Yafie, who was being treated intensively at the hospital.

"I visited the Almukaram Prof. Kiai Haji Ali Yafie who was sick, but earlier I was grateful that he was still able to respond to my presence, he even smiled," said Vice President Ma'ruf as quoted by ANTARA Thursday, February 16.

KH Ali Yafie's condition had decreased drastically on Monday because there were problems in the lungs and heart but after being treated for a few days, Kiai Ali Yafie's condition began to improve.

"He is now 90 years old. He is my senior, both during my time at Nahdlatul Ulama since he became my Rais Aam when he became his Katib Aam. Then Rais Aam was continued by Kiai Sahal Mahfudz and I continued, then he advanced at the Ulama Council (Indonesia) as chairman and I was still behind him as chairman of the Ulama Council (Indonesia)," said the Vice President.

After KH Ali Yafie no longer served as Chairman of the MUI and was replaced by KH Sahal Mahfudz, then Vice President Ma'ruf Amin who became Chairman of the MUI.

"So I got along with him for a long time, and he is a great scholar, of course, he has broad knowledge, not only religious problems but also state, nationality, society," added the Vice President.

Vice President Ma'ruf said that there are rarely ulama with the ability and breadth of knowledge like that of KH Ali Yafie.

"We still need his condition, even though he is old he has a big influence. Hopefully, Allah will provide healing so that we can still lead all Muslims and the Indonesian people in general," hoped the Vice President.

KH Ali Yafie was born in Donggala, Central Sulawesi, on September 1, 1926. He is a fiqh cleric and has carried out the mandate as Rais Aam PBNU in 1991-1992.

At the NU Congress in Krapyak in 1989, he was elected as a representative of Rais Aam PBNU KH Achmad Shiddiq. However, when Kiai Achmad Shiddiq died in 1991, KH Ali Yafie then acted on his duties, responsibilities, rights, and authorities as Acting (Pj) Rais Aam until 1992.

Kiai Ali Yafie also carried out the mandate as the Caretaker of the Darul Da'wah Al-Irsyad Islamic Boarding School, Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi which he founded in 1947.
